As we start new routines this fall, it’s so easy to lose motivation. We’ve all been told that 6 to 8 hours of sleep a night is the most ideal, but that means it has to be 6 to 8 hours of continuous sleep. Keeping your neck in alignment will ensure that your brain is getting the correct amount of oxygen. to help ensure you are getting as close to 6 to 8 hours a night. When your neck is not aligned, it can tighten your jaw joints and muscles. This can close down your airways while you lay down, decreasing the oxygen flow to your brain. Regularly getting your neck adjusted will help with exposing your brain to high levels of oxygen helps you remain in deep, restorative sleep. Another way chiropractic can help with your sleep is decreasing your body’s stress hormone - Cortisol . This hormone causes your body to feel wired (kind of how caffeine can make you feel), it’s a large factor to why some of us are unable to unwind and fall asleep at night. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely avoid daily stress. All this stress builds more and more cortisol in your body; the more cortisol in your blood stream means you won’t be able to sleep as well. With every adjustment your body will lower its level of cortisol and decrease the amount your body is producing.
